Mark Lawrence Biography

Mark is an Associate Professor in Public Health Nutrition at Deakin University, Australia. He has 30 years experience working in public health nutrition at local, state, national and international levels. As the Head of the Food Policy Unit at the University’s Population Health Strategic Research Centre, Mark is actively involved in public health nutrition research, teaching, service and advocacy. His research interests focus on analysing food systems to inform policies that will promote food security and sustainability as well as obesity prevention. His latest book is ‘Food fortification; the evidence, ethics, and politics of adding nutrients to food’, 2013, Oxford University Press. Mark is a technical advisor to the World Health Organization, a former member of the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council’s Dietary Guidelines working committee and a current member of the Advisory Committee for the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing’s review of the Nutrient Reference Values.
