Alex Canepa

MSc. Candidate in the History of Medicine, Science and Technology

Alex researches the history of food systems with a focus on agricultural economics and public health.

His dissertation, The Obesity Years: Medicine and Public Health in Houston, 1975-1990, addresses the response of the medical community the American obesity epidemic.

Alex’s previous work has covered the American farm crisis of the 1980s and American agricultural policy in the New Deal era.

Alex has worked for the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food initiative and for Washington-based lobbying firm NVG in the lead-up to the passage of the Healthy Food Financing Initiative by the U.S. Congress.

In the future, Alex would like to continue to work in food policy in his native Texas.
