The Oxford Student Food Forum will be holding their 4th Annual Conference on May 2nd 2015 and are inviting researchers across the social and biological sciences, NGOs, farmers, and businesses to submit a 300 word abstract for a 15 minute oral paper/presentation.

The theme of the conference will be: Culture, Food and the Environment: New Perspectives on Food Sovereignty and Security.

The deadline for abstracts and visuals proposals will be December 31, 2014, and decisions on abstracts will be sent out in the early part of 2015.

A new report by the Environmental Change Institute (ECI), at the School of Geography and the Environment, concludes that better governance could have lessened the impact on the poorest and most vulnerable, and affected populations have been let down by the authorities in past disasters.

The Environmental Change Institute has launched a new policy briefing series: 'Insights for Policy'.

These four-page documents present the aspects of a particular piece of research relevant to policy makers in government, international organisations, business and charity sectors.

The first in the series is about food and environments in East Africa. It looks at how different futures might affect food security and environmental change in the region.

This research comes out of the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security (CCAFS).

A new issue of the Oxford Review of Economic Policy, edited by Christopher Adam and Doug Gollin, Department of International Development, discusses the economics and politics of the rapidly changing global food and agricultural system.

It tackles the big public policy questions associated with the huge, recent transformation of the food system from small scale and highly seasonal agricultural production to an industrialized food system in which farm-based production accounts for only a small fraction of gross spending on food in rich countries.
