Since we have spent the best part of a year in our homes, the demand for ‘click-to-buy’ food delivery services has never been greater. From Deliveroo and Uber Eats to Hello Fresh, Mindful Chef and 'restaurant-quality' meal kit services, not to mention ordinary supermarket deliveries, our options for shopping and dining at home continue to multiply. But we have yet to think about the huge impact of this behavioural change on the food industry, our eating habits, and society and culture more broadly.

This online event will bring together academics, industry representatives, and members of the general public to discuss the ways in which fast-moving food chains have been affected by the current pandemic. The evening will feature a talk by Professor Alex Colas (Birkbeck, University of London), and a roundtable discussion with a panel of academic and industry experts, including the pioneering food delivery service Foodstuff and the exciting new meal-kit brand EatGrounded!

The event will explore the following key questions:

  1. How have patterns of 'quick' and ‘on-demand’ food supply been affected by the current pandemic?
  2. What long-term patterns and processes are at play?
  3. What are the costs and implications of our changing food behaviours in the present?

This event is presented by the University of Warwick as part of its Global Research Priority on 'Food Cultures', in partnership with food scholars Dr Katrina Moseley and Dr Eleanor Barnett. Members of the public are very welcome to attend and share their own views and experiences, as food retailers, producers, and consumers.
